What is an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner?

Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners are your nonpartisan and local voice to District agencies on issues like public safety, streets, zoning, and sanitation services. By law, DC agencies must give great weight to ANC recommendations on a diverse set of issues.

This position is the most direct way for the DC government to hear your vision for DC. It matters and I'll make the most of it for you and our community.

DC has 45 Advisory Neighborhood Commissions composed of single-member districts (SMD) represented by Commissioners…like me! ANC 1A includes all of Columbia Heights and is composed of 10 districts. Our ANC stretches from Sherman Avenue NW to 16th Street NW, including our busy civic plaza and up-and-coming restaurants all on 14th Street NW.

Where is your SMD?

I represent SMD 1A10. It is almost completely residential, dotted with rowhouses on Harvard and Girard Streets and Columbia Road. It includes two schools - Harriet Tubman Elementary and Carlos Rosario, which provides adult education services to residents and our immigrant community. 11th Street is the busiest thoroughfare in ANC 1A10 and cuts through the entirety of this our-member district.

Where can I locate the SMD I live in?

Easy! Look it up on OpenANC.org. If I represent you please contact me at 1A10@anc.dc.gov. And if I don’t, please reach out to your Commissioner. We all love to listen and help our residents!
